The following items describe the PureShooterTM game rules used in the
PureShooters OpenPlayTMcompetition.
- Each team consists of an equal number of players.
- A game for each player consists of twenty-five "free throw" shots and twenty-five "perimeter"
shots grouped into 6 "frames". A perimeter shot may be a 3-pointer (behind the 3-point arc, 19' 9")
or a 2-pointer (beyond 15').
- Frame 1 consists of ten free throw shots, Frame 2 ... ten perimeter shots, Frame 3 ... ten free
throw shots, Frame 4 ... ten perimeter shots, Frame 5 ... five free throw shots, and Frame 6 ...
five perimeter shots.
- Each player must shoot all shots in a frame within the following time requirements:
- Frame 1 ... 90 seconds
- Frame 2 ... 60 seconds
- Frame 3 ... 90 seconds
- Frame 4 ... 60 seconds
- Frame 5 ... 60 seconds
- Frame 6 ... 60 seconds
- Perimeter shots must be taken in "around the world" fashion from 5 designated positions: corner,
wing, top of the key, opposite wing, and opposite corner.
- Points for each player are awarded according to the following system:
- made free throw shot = 1 point
- made 2-pointer perimeter shot = 2 points
- made 3-pointer perimeter shot = 3 points
- progressively increasing bonus points are earned in a frame for percentages greater than 50%
- total points for a Frame are doubled if all shots in the Frame are made (i.e., no misses)
- a "perfect" game (i.e., no misses) shooting 3-pointers for perimeter shots will earn the maximum
score of 200 points
- Player and team point totals are tallied on a frame basis as play progresses.
- Players and teams take turns shooting frame by frame. That is, Player 1 from Team 1 shoots an
entire frame first, followed by Player 1 from Team 2. The remaining players alternate in this fashion
until all players have completed the frame. Play continues in this manner until all frames have been
completed.
- The winner of the game is the team with the highest total team score.
- If the final team score results in a tie, a "shootout" process is used to determine the winning team:
- each player (using the same shooting order) shoots one 3-point shot from any 3-point location
for an "Overtime" frame
- the team with the most made shots in this frame wins the game
- this process is repeated until a winner is determined
The PureShooterTM game is like a combination of Bowling, 3-point
shootout and free throw shooting competition. Click
